05. Application Rates
The appropriate application rate of calcium sulfate is best determined through soil testing and calculation, based on the need that is being addressed. The application rate for plant nutrition is typically on a very different scale than for soil treatment. It is important to realize that an application that is adequate for feeding the crop may be far too small to have much effect on soil structure or chemistry.
A comparison between suggested normal application rates10 of calcium sulfate for purposes of sulfur nourishment, calcium nourishment, and for various soil problems, using data from several previous studies, reveals the scale of difference in application quantities.
*These quantities should not be used as a recommendation. They are quoted for comparison purposes only, and may not be appropriate for a specific crop or soil condition.
As previously stated, the best way to determine an appropriate application rate is through soil testing and consultation that includes calcium and sulfur in its results.
