4. Calcium Sulfate vs Lime

It should be noted that calcium sulfate has a neutral pH, and it does not change the acid/alkali balance of the soil. However, driving out the sodium can decrease pH slightly. Limestone (calcium carbonate) can increase soil pH, which is useful where low soil pH is a problem. However, this is rarely the case in California. Limestone is not a good calcium source unless the soil is acidic.
